Titans Clinch Playoffs with Tie Over LCC
LONGVIEW, Wash. — Tacoma (12-1-3, 9-0-2) and Lower Columbia (4-6-5, 3-4-4) played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at North Lake Field with Tacoma scoring both of its goals in the first half.
The first half commenced with Tacoma quickly establishing offensive pressure. Despite several early attempts, including shots from Laura Corr and Allison Mavin, Tacoma was unable to find the back of the net initially. Persistence paid off in the 24th minute when Emma Hoover scored the first goal of the match, assisted by Mersedes Baltazar, putting Tacoma ahead 1-0.
Tacoma continued to control the pace, and Madison Coulter extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute with an assist from Sarah Stochel. LCC managed to respond with a goal by Annabelle Rogers in the 35th minute, narrowing the deficit. The half closed with Tacoma maintaining a 2-1 lead, demonstrating effective offensive tactics throughout.
The second half began with Tacoma seeking to regain momentum following a tied first half. Early attempts by Railee Hutton, Laura Corr, and Amelia Recardo demonstrated offensive pressure, though shots missed their mark or were saved by LCC's goalkeeper, Haley Loll.
Despite Tacoma's efforts, the turning point came in the 81st minute when LCC's Maylee Reynolds, assisted by Sam Roundtree, scored to equalize the game at 2-2. Tacoma continued to press forward, with Hutton's shot being saved and a late corner kick by Corr failing to break the deadlock.
The half concluded with the score remaining level at 2-2, as Tacoma's attempts to reclaim the lead were held off by LCC's defensive efforts.
Madison Coulter scored one goal and converted all three of her shots on goal. Hoover also added a goal, with two of her three total shots being on target. Hutton led the team with four shots, including one shot on goal. Sarah Stochel and Mersedes Baltazar each recorded an assist, contributing to the offensive efforts.
Cassandra Cleland made six saves against eight shots faced, showing defensive resilience for LCC. Rogers and Reynolds were key in the offensive effort, each scoring a goal. Rogers had two shots on goal while Reynolds converted her sole shot into a goal. Sam Roundtree contributed to the team's playmaking with an assist, highlighting her role in orchestrating attacks.
Tacoma holds a record of 12-1-3 overall and 9-0-2 in conference play. LCC stands at 4-6-5 overall and 3-4-4 in conference play.
In their next game, Tacoma will face Pierce on October 22. The match is set for 4:15 p.m. in Tacoma, WA.
