WSOC beats Clark at home 1-0
TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma secured a 1-0 victory over Clark in a home matchup on Saturday, with the lone goal breaking through in the second half.
The first half began with Tacoma pressing offensively, creating multiple opportunities but being unable to convert. Railee Hutton initiated the attack with a shot striking the crossbar in the 7th minute. The Titans continued to apply pressure, with Melanie Rojas-Perez and Laura Corr each forcing key defensive saves from Clark.
Despite Tacoma's dominant possession and numerous attempts on goal, including a notable corner kick sequence by Rojas-Perez, the team was unable to find the back of the net. Clark's goalkeeper, Ella Lulich, made several crucial saves to keep the game scoreless. As the half closed, Tacoma maintained its offensive push, but the score remained tied at 0-0.
The second half commenced with Tacoma taking immediate control, highlighted by Madison Coulter's goal at the 48th minute, assisted by Amelia Recardo. This early strike put the Titans ahead 1-0. Tacoma maintained pressure, with Ivy Korbal and Corr contributing to a series of offensive efforts, although Clark's goalkeeper, Lulich, managed several key saves.
As the half progressed, Tacoma's defense, led by goalkeeper Olivia Meyer, thwarted Clark's attempts to equalize, including a notable save against Bella Rodriguez. The Titans continued to press offensively, with Hutton's shot hitting the post in the closing moments. Despite several attempts on goal and maintaining offensive momentum, Tacoma's single goal stood as the deciding factor. The half concluded with Tacoma holding a 1-0 lead.
Coulter scored the only goal for the Titans, converting one of her three shots. Hutton led Tacoma's attack with six shots, three of which were on goal. Recardo contributed an assist while also managing to get her single shot on target. In goal, Meyer recorded three saves, maintaining a clean sheet across the full 90 minutes.
Lulich stood out in goal for the Penguins, recording 12 saves over the full 90 minutes. Rodriguez contributed offensively with two shots, one of which was on target, while Isabel McCauley also managed a shot on goal. Bellaliis Town added to the team's offensive effort with one shot, which was also on target.
In their next game, Tacoma hosts Green River on October 15, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
