LACEY, Wash. — Tacoma shut out South Puget Sound 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon, scoring all five goals in the second half.
The first half opened with a defensive statement as Andrew Wagenblatt made crucial saves for Tacoma, notably denying Juan Lopez in the 13th minute. Tacoma's offensive efforts were highlighted with a penalty kick opportunity in the 30th minute, but Davyd Fedina's attempt went wide. Despite a series of fouls and missed chances, including a shot by Taylor Duffek that hit the crossbar in the 38th minute, both teams remained scoreless at the end of the half.
In a scoreless first half, Tacoma's Davyd Fedina had two opportunities to convert penalty kicks but missed both wide, leaving the team without a lead despite South Puget Sound's eight fouls and two yellow cards. Tacoma managed a total of five shots, including a close attempt by Taylor Duffek that struck the crossbar. Goalkeeper Andrew Wagenblatt was instrumental for Tacoma, making two key saves to keep South Puget Sound off the scoreboard, despite their nine shots, one of which also hit the crossbar.
The second half saw Tacoma take control of the match with an offensive surge, beginning with Jason Adams scoring the opening goal in the 62nd minute, assisted by Javier Villegas. Just moments later, Noah Blake-Mathur doubled the lead with a goal in the 63rd minute, thanks to an assist from Taylor Duffek. Tacoma's dominance continued as they added three more goals, with Blake-Mathur, Alonzo Lopez, and Nathan Coyle each finding the net, securing a decisive 5-0 victory.
