Titan Athlete Spotlight - Kali Ginnis, Women's Soccer
ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT - KALI GINNIS
It's an exciting time to be a member of the Tacoma Community College women's soccer team. The Titans are 12-1-2 on the season and currently lead the West Region with a 9-0-1 record.
A key component of the team's success is sophomore Kali Ginnis, who has started all 15 games this season.
Ginnis is a sophomore center back with the Titans. Last year, Ginnis was an Defensive NWAC All-Star.
THE RIGHT CHOICE
Ginnis, grew up in Fife, knew she wanted to play collegiate soccer from a young age. As a result, she was selective and strategic when it came to choosing her next destination after high school.
"I was only looking at a few schools that were the right fit for me," said Ginnis. "I chose TCC because I wasn't ready to move to a big school yet. I felt like it was a good team for me. I would get my AA first and save money."
It's safe to say Ginnis made the right choice continuing to play for her club coach, Jill Green.
GAME DAY ROUTINE
A typical game day for Ginnis consists of waking up without an alarm, getting dressed, and making breakfast.
"I usually eat eggs, a breakfast burrito, or a bagel sandwich on game days," she said.
When it comes to pre-game rituals, Ginnis considers herself to be a pretty laid-back person.
"No, I don't have any specific rituals or superstitions before a game," she said. "I'm pretty chill."
Something that does get her hyped is music.
"My favorite hype music is anything by Drake or Kanye," she said.
On the other hand, Ginnis' teammates, Melanie Rojas-Perez, isn't as chill on game days.
"One of my teammates does a firework whistle," she said. This is the team's pregame huddle routine.
A GREAT TIME FOR TACOMA
The Titans have clinched a playoff stop with 4 games left in the regular season. Ginnis and her teammates have high expectations for the season and hope to finish the year as NWAC champions.
