Jasmeen Kaur Leads Tacoma CC Despite Loss
AUBURN, Wash. — Tacoma Community College fell to Green River College, 85-64, despite forcing 14 steals and dominating the paint with 34 points. GRC capitalized on their three-point shooting, hitting 14 from beyond the arc to secure the win.
The game commenced with Jasmeen Kaur putting Tacoma on the board with a 3-pointer, assisted by Ikunaday Filipe, just 20 seconds into the first quarter. However, GRC quickly took control, led by Jayla Keowla's scoring and defensive efforts. GRC's shooting accuracy from beyond the arc, notably with a 3-pointer by Emma Sondergaard, helped them establish a commanding 27-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. TCC struggled to keep pace, with Kaur contributing eight points, but it was not enough to close the gap against GRC's efficient offense.
The second quarter saw GRC extend their lead over TCC, highlighted by Emma Sondergaard's 3-pointer just three seconds in, assisted by Jirah Villanueva. GRC capitalized on turnovers, with Riley Patzer sinking a 3-pointer and a jumper, contributing to their 20-point quarter output. TCC's Jasmeen Kaur hit multiple threes, including a long-range shot at the three minute mark. The quarter ended with GRC maintaining a substantial lead 47-25.
GRC maintained their lead over TCC in the third quarter. Despite TCC's efforts, including back-to-back layups by Ikunaday Filipe and a strong defensive performance with multiple steals from Tamairah Allen, GRC extended their advantage. Jayla Keowla contributed with successful free throws, while Villanueva added a late 3-pointer at the 39-second mark, solidifying GRC's position. TCC managed to narrow the gap slightly with Josephine Matau's layup at 48 seconds, but GRC closed the quarter ahead, 67-44.
GRC maintained its lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure an 85-64 victory over TCC. Laney Green of TCC opened the quarter with a layup, but GRC responded with a 3-pointer from Emma Sondergaard, assisted by Riley Patzer. TCC's Josephine Matau was active in the paint, contributing multiple layups. Jasmeen Kaur closed the game with a 3-pointer with just 9 seconds on the clock, but it was not enough to overcome GRC's advantage.
