TCC Loses to Bellevue in Last Pre-Season Game
BELLEVUE, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (0-15) fell to Bellevue College (5-9), 85-48, as Bellevue capitalized on 22 turnovers to secure a commanding victory. TCC managed 14 steals but struggled with shooting, going 0-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The game began with TCC taking an early advantage, fueled by strong defensive efforts including five steals. Ikunaday Filipe scored a key layup at 4:53, giving TCC their largest lead of two points. Bellevue's Shannel Kovalsky quickly responded with a layup and a free throw, helping narrow the gap. In the final moments, Josephine Matau's layup at 0:41 put TCC ahead. Despite Bellevue's Shannel Kovalsky making a free throw with 16 seconds remaining, TCC concluded the first quarter ahead, 15-14.
Bellevue secured a commanding lead in the second quarter with a 31-8 run over TCC. Sophia Mackay led the charge for Bellevue, contributing with a mix of jumpers and layups, while Lily Auelua and Sequoia Turner each added 3-pointers. TCC struggled with turnovers, committing 12 in the quarter, which Bellevue capitalized on to extend their lead. Matau managed to score from the free-throw line for TCC, but the quarter ended with DeAndrea Woods-Singleton scoring a layup and a free throw for Bellevue, cementing their 45-23 halftime advantage.
Bellevue extended their lead significantly in the third quarter, outscoring TCC 21-11. Alexis Marcussen hit a 3-pointer at 9:18, assisted by Aysha Peter, setting the tone for the quarter. Bellevue's defense capitalized on TCC's turnovers, with Katen Myers securing multiple steals. Jasmeen Kaur attempted to rally her team, scoring a jumper and a layup in quick succession, but Bellevue maintained control. Woods-Singleton closed the quarter with consecutive layups, pushing Bellevue's lead to 66-34.
Bellevue maintained a commanding lead throughout the fourth quarter to secure a decisive victory over TCC. Filipe initiated scoring for TCC with a layup at 9:16, but Bellevue's offense responded effectively. Auelua contributed significantly for Bellevue, including a jumper at 1:22, which extended their lead to 85-42. Matau provided a late effort for TCC, scoring two layups in the final minute, but it wasn't enough to overcome Bellevue's advantage. The final quarter ended with Bellevue outscoring TCC 19-14, highlighting their dominant performance.
