Titans Narrowly Fall to Everett 58-51
SPOKANE, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (0-8, 0-0) fell to Everett (3-4, 0-0), 58-51, despite a late fourth-quarter surge that cut the deficit. The Titans finished with 42 rebounds, matching Everett's total on the boards.
The first quarter began with Tacoma's Lanasha Lacy capturing an early steal, though the team struggled to capitalize, shooting 3-for-17 from the field. Everett's Myah Galdeira played a pivotal role, scoring two consecutive layups, the second at 6:01, to give her team a 6-0 lead. Tacoma responded with a layup by Ikunaday Filipe, who also scored a three-pointer to briefly put the Titans ahead, 7-6, at the 3:50 mark. However, Everett regained control with a late 3-pointer from Kaila Oudom and a layup from Kelsee Hunt, concluding the quarter with a 12-8 lead over TCC.
In the second quarter, Everett started strong with Jordan Hentel scoring a layup just 10 seconds into the quarter. Tacoma responded with a jumper from Jasmeen Kaur at 7:26, narrowing the gap to 18-10. Lacy's three-pointer at 6:43, assisted by Kaur, further tightened the score to 18-13. Tacoma continued their momentum, closing the gap to one point at 22-21 with a layup by Filipe at 3:23, assisted by Lacy. Everett regained the lead late in the quarter with a layup by Hentel at 1:27 and a three-pointer by Galdeira at 0:41, ending the quarter with a 27-23 advantage. Both teams scored 15 points in the quarter, maintaining Everett's overall lead.
Everett extended its lead in the third quarter with an impressive shooting performance, outscoring Tacoma 20-9. Galdeira contributed significantly with three 3-pointers, including one at 7:55, pushing Everett's lead. Kaur responded with a 3-pointer at 9:06, but Everett maintained control. Hunt added to Everett's advantage with a layup at 7:11. Despite Tacoma's efforts, including a late layup by Kaur with one second remaining, Everett held a commanding 47-32 lead by the end of the quarter.
Tacoma managed to narrow the gap in the fourth quarter with a strong offensive effort, outscoring Everett 19-11. Lacy led Tacoma's comeback attempt with four 3-pointers, including back-to-back threes at the 8:45 and 8:21 marks, cutting the lead to single digits. Despite Lacy's efforts, Everett maintained control, highlighted by Brynn Meno's 3-pointer at 5:34, which helped sustain their lead. Hentel's late jumper at 1:59 sealed the game for Everett, allowing them to withstand Tacoma's rally and secure the victory.
