TCC Titans Struggle Against Peninsula in 80-48 Defeat
PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (0-7, 0-0) fell to Peninsula College (4-2, 0-0), 80-48, as Peninsula's 44 points in the paint contributed significantly to their victory.
The first quarter saw Peninsula take control early with a three-pointer from Ryana Moss at 9:37, setting the tone for the home team's dominance. Alecsis Smith capitalized on the momentum, contributing a series of layups to extend the home team's lead. TCC struggled to find their rhythm, missing several opportunities at the free-throw line and from the field. Ikunaday Filipe managed to score a layup at 8:48, but Peninsula's defense held strong, allowing only seven points from TCC. The quarter ended with Peninsula leading 23-7, highlighted by a layup from Makena Patrick at 1:17.
In the second quarter, Peninsula extended their lead with a layup from Patrick at 9:22, bringing the score to 25-7. Jasmeen Kaur responded for TCC, scoring a layup and a jumper in quick succession to cut the deficit to 25-11. Peninsula maintained their momentum with a three-pointer from Marley Myers at 5:46, assisted by Moss, which widened their lead to 30-14. Despite TCC's efforts, including a late jumper by Cherish Parham, Peninsula ended the quarter ahead, 37-20, with a notable three-pointer by Kimberlee Brown at 2:23 assisted by Carliese O'Brien.
Peninsula took control in the third quarter, outscoring TCC 28-15 and extending their lead. Aspen Fraser was instrumental, contributing multiple baskets, including a layup at 6:08 that pushed Peninsula's advantage to 47-22. Moss also added to the home team's momentum with a jumper at 7:33. Despite TCC's efforts, including a three-pointer from Lanasha Lacy at 2:06, they struggled to keep pace. The quarter ended with Patrick making two free throws, solidifying Peninsula's lead at 65-35.
The fourth quarter saw Peninsula maintain control, ending with an 80-48 victory over TCC. TCC's Kaur contributed to the score with a layup at 8:25, while Lacy added a three-pointer at 7:31. However, Peninsula's Haley Ostrander responded with a three-pointer and a layup, extending their lead. Myers secured the final points with a layup at 00:33, capping off a strong quarter for Peninsula.
