Titans Solidity Playoff Spot With Win Over SPS
LACEY, Wash. — Tacoma Community College (11-4-4, 9-2-3) dominated South Puget Sound Community College (5-7-2, 6-8-3) with a decisive 5-0 victory on Wednesday. TCC's offense was relentless, recording 22 shots, 12 of which were on target.
The match began with TCC applying early offensive pressure, resulting in multiple shots on goal. Taylor Pierce and Davyd Fedina led the attack, with Fedina finding the back of the net at the 23:14 mark, assisted by Bennett Erickson, giving TCC an early lead. Shortly after, TCC extended its advantage when Kuan-Lin Chen scored at 26:01. Meanwhile, TCC's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Andrew Wagenblatt, held firm, denying two SPS attempts. As the period concluded, TCC maintained its 2-0 lead, showcasing strong execution on both ends of the field.
TCC extended its lead early in the second period, with Bennett Erickson scoring in the 50th minute off an assist from Kuan-Lin Chen. Erickson's contribution was followed by Jason Adams finding the back of the net in the 62nd minute, assisted by Erickson, bringing the score to 4-0.
TCC maintained its offensive pressure, with Takumi Sugihara adding a goal in the 77th minute, assisted by Bracken Overby, to further solidify the lead. Despite several attempts from SPS, TCC's defense held firm, closing the period with a decisive 5-0 victory over SPS.
TCC established control early in the first period with a series of offensive pushes, culminating in goals by Davyd Fedina at the 23rd minute and Kuan-Lin Chen just three minutes later. TCC consistently pressured SPS's defense, recording nine shots on goal and capitalizing on their opportunities with Fedina's goal assisted by Bennett Erickson. SPS managed only two shots on target, both saved by Andrew Wagenblatt, as TCC ended the period leading 2-0.
TCC extended its lead in the second period with decisive scoring and a robust offense. Bennett Erickson struck early in the period off an assist from Kuan-Lin Chen, followed by Jason Adams capitalizing on Erickson's assist to push the lead to 4-0. TCC's offense continued to pressure SPS, resulting in multiple corner kicks and a final goal from Takumi Sugihara, assisted by Bracken Overby. SPS struggled to respond, as TCC's defense held firm, concluding the period with a 5-0 final score.
Bennett Erickson contributed significantly with one goal and two assists, showcasing his ability to facilitate scoring opportunities. Kuan-Lin Chen also impressed by scoring a goal, providing an assist, and leading the team with five shots. Davyd Fedina secured the game-winning goal, converting both of his shots on target. Andrew Wagenblatt maintained a clean sheet, recording two saves over 90 minutes in goal.
Alex Reichelderfer stood out in goal for SPS, recording seven saves over 90 minutes. The opposing team managed 12 shots on target, but Reichelderfer's efforts kept the scoreline respectable. Eli Fuhriman and Alejandro De La Rosa contributed offensively with one shot each, both on target, adding pressure to the opposing defense.
TCC holds a record of 11-4-4 overall and 9-2-3 in conference play. SPS stands at 5-7-2 overall and 6-8-3 in conference play.
In their next game, TCC will face off against Highline on Saturday, Nov. 1. The matchup will take place at home in Tacoma, Washington, with kickoff set for noon.
