Titan Athlete Spotlight - Taylor Pierce, Men's Soccer
ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT - TAYLOR PIERCE
Soccer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in Utah, my family were avid soccer fans, and it was only natural that I would follow in their footsteps.
I started playing soccer when I was just four years old, trying to keep up with my dad and uncles. From attending Real Salt Lake games to kicking a ball around with my younger brother, soccer quickly became more than just a game for me.
It was a way of life.
Lessons from the field
As I grew older, soccer taught me valuable life lessons. My mom was a significant influence, always putting others first. I carried that mindset onto the field, working harder for my teammates and placing their success above my own.
But there were challenges along the way. People often doubted me because of my size, telling me I was too small to compete at a high level. However, with the unwavering support of my family, I embraced my size as a strength rather than a weakness.
Their belief in me motivated me to prove everyone wrong.
Recruiting to TCC
When it came time to pursue soccer at the collegiate level, my recruiting process was far from typical.
I didn't have any offers going into my senior year, and it was a friend on my UPSL team who suggested I contact the coach at Tacoma Community College. Despite not having any film to showcase my skills, Coach Jason gave me an opportunity.
Once I received that offer from TCC, I was all in.
Game day rituals
As a team captain for the Titans in my final year at TCC, game days hold a special place in my heart. I start my game day routine by setting my alarm for 8 AM.
After a hearty breakfast of an egg, ham, and cheese sandwich, I get in the zone with my favorite game day hype song, "We Are The People" by Empire of the Sun.
Right before kickoff, my teammates and I gather in a tight circle, bow our heads, and pray together. It's a ritual that unites us and reinforces the bond we share on and off the field.
The sacrifices and hard work have been worth it. I've met incredible people along the way who have shaped me into the person and player I am today. I look forward to making the most of my time at TCC and continuing to pursue my childhood dream of playing professional soccer.
