Titans Fall Short In Season Finale Against Thunderbirds
Des Moines, Wash. — In a spirited season finale, the Tacoma Titans put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell short against the Highline Thunderbirds, 98-86. Despite forcing eight steals, the Titans couldn't quite clinch the win in this high-stakes showdown.
The action kicked off with Amare Brown netting the first points for the Titans. Highline quickly countered with Jackson Owens' jumper, tying it up at 2-2. Denali Hatcher gave Tacoma a brief edge with a three-pointer, nudging the score to 5-2. However, the Thunderbirds surged back, led by Owens and Ian Prictor, who fueled a 7-2 run, pushing Highline ahead 9-7. TCC momentarily reclaimed the lead at 29-28 after Jakoi Lide's crucial free throws, but Highline closed the half strong with a 20-8 run, capped by Prictor's jumper, leading 48-37 at the break.
The second half saw Highline extending their lead early, courtesy of another Prictor jumper, making it 50-38. Lide spearheaded TCC's efforts to close the gap with free throws and a jumper, bringing it to 52-41. As the clock ticked down, Highline's Keon DeWalt and Owens sank pivotal three-pointers, widening their lead. With just under four minutes on the clock, Tacoma's Creighton Pennock hit a three-pointer, narrowing the margin to 86-79. Despite a late surge from Donovan Gill, who drained a three-pointer in the final seconds, Highline held firm to secure the 98-86 win.
