Defense Shines for Tacoma CC in Loss to Pierce
LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Tacoma fell to Pierce 70-58 on Saturday at Pierce College HEC. Tacoma's defense recorded nine steals, but Pierce maintained control with a 12-point lead in the second half.
The game began with Pierce taking an early lead through a 3-pointer by Dylan Jay. Tacoma responded with a scoring run, highlighted by Jakoi Lide's three-point play, giving TCC a brief lead at 12-9. Both teams traded leads throughout the half, with Tacoma's Donovan Gill tying the game at 29-29 with 26 seconds remaining. However, Pierce's Ishe Kanhukamwe hit a three-pointer with nine seconds left to close the half with Pierce leading 33-29.
Pierce capitalized on an early scoring surge to establish a 12-point lead at the seven minutes mark of the second half. Tacoma responded with several key plays, including a 3-pointer by Gill, which helped reduce the deficit to five points. Despite Tacoma's efforts, including notable defensive plays such as a block and defensive rebound by Dylan Wiggins, Pierce maintained their advantage. Mande Wanlemvo's clutch free throws and Josiah Gopaul's final jumper at 16 seconds ensured Pierce's 70-58 victory, outscoring TCC 37-29 in the half.
