TCC Preseason Finale Ends in 9-1 Defeat
YAKIMA, Wash. — The TCC baseball team fell to Yakima Valley College with a final score of 1-9 on Friday during the second of two games. TCC managed to score its lone run in the fifth inning, while YVC secured the victory with nine runs on nine hits, including three doubles and a triple. This marked the last preseason game before West Region conference play starts on Thursday, 3/26 at Centralia College.
Yakima Valley jumped to an early lead in the first inning, scoring five runs. Will Feltus singled and advanced to third on consecutive singles and hit-by-pitches, bringing home the first run. Nate Olmos and Diego Dickson were also hit by pitches, each driving in a run, followed by Kasey Newton's three-RBI double to center, giving YVC a 5-0 advantage after one inning.
In the second inning, YVC extended its lead with two runs. Feltus tripled and scored on Garren Gooler's groundout, and Jackson Walker crossed the plate on Jace Fillmore's sacrifice fly, making it 7-0 through two innings.
TCC got on the board in the fifth inning. Tyson Rather doubled and then stole third, scoring on Kaden Cretti's RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-1. Rather's impressive performance included a season-high of 3 hits. YVC responded with a run in the bottom half, regaining an 8-1 lead through five innings.
YVC added another run in the seventh inning. A series of walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, allowing a run to score on a walk to Feltus, extending its lead to 9-1.
The game concluded with YVC securing a 9-1 victory over TCC.
Austin Nelson started the game for Tacoma, pitching 2 innings, allowing 7 earned runs on 6 hits, including 2 doubles and a triple, and striking out 1. Devin Tep, in relief, delivered a strong performance, pitching 4 innings with 6 strikeouts, allowing just 1 earned run and 1 hit, and maintaining a WHIP of 0.75. Chris Reynolds pitched 2/3 inning, giving up 1 earned run with 3 walks and a hit batter, while Atticus Manning closed the game with 1 1/3 innings, striking out 4, which was a season-high for him.
