Renovations on Minnitti Field completed this Fall
Tacoma, WA — Tacoma Community College (TCC) is pleased to announce the completion of the resurfacing project at Minnitti Field.
Minnitti Field, a renowned baseball venue at Tacoma Community College, has been the home of TCC's baseball team since its inaugural season in 1979. Named in honor of former TCC staff member Sam Minnitti, the field has hosted numerous successful baseball teams and has been instrumental in the college's strong tradition of developing players who advance to higher levels of competition. The recent renovations align with the program's reputation for excellence, ensuring that the facility meets the high standards set by its players and coaches.
The resurfacing project was driven by the need to improve the playing surface, which had not been professionally graded and leveled for some time. The work was completed by NW Turf Solutions, the same company responsible for maintaining and resurfacing T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners. The new field, which retains its natural surface, now boasts improvements comparable to those found at Division Champion venues, reflecting TCC's commitment to providing top-tier facilities for its athletes and maintaining the legacy of Minnitti Field as a premier college baseball venue.
This project was made possible through a $100,000 grant from the Names Family Foundation, a local foundation that has provided millions of dollars in funding for Pierce County organizations that emphasized "wellness, sports and physical fitness" since 1996. The successful grant proposal was the result of a collaborative effort involving the TCC Foundation, Athletics staff, coaches, and campus partners, all working together to secure support from the Names Family Foundation. In combination with funds previously raised, TCC was able to finally complete this important project in the summer of 2025.
Jason Prenovost, TCC's Athletic Director, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of the project for the college's baseball program. "The new baseball field looks great," Prenovost stated. "It had been a while since the field had been regraded, so it needed to be done."
"We are incredibly grateful to the Names Family Foundation for their generous support," said Emily Mendez-Bryant, Executive Director of the TCC Foundation. "This project not only enhances the experience for our student-athletes, but also supports broader access to safe, high-quality spaces for physical activity and community wellness."
Minnitti Field is now equipped to host future athletes who will continue the tradition of excellence at TCC.
