Former TCC Titan Trent Buchanan Signs with Atlanta Braves
February 14, 2025
TACOMA, WA - Former Tacoma Community College (TCC) Titan, Trent Buchanan, a right-handed pitcher from Gig Harbor, Washington, has signed with the Atlanta Braves organization. Buchanan's journey to professional baseball is a testament to his resilience, work ethic, and unwavering dedication to his craft.
Buchanan was a standout player for the Titans from 2020 to 2022. His 2021 season was marred by the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in a shortened schedule and the cancelation of postseason play. However, Buchanan bounced back in 2022, making 11 appearances for TCC, including 10 starts, where he posted an impressive 1.80 ERA over 60 innings. He struck out 62 batters while facing 242, helping the Titans to a 35-12 record and the NWAC West Region Championship.
For his performance, Buchanan was named First Team West Region Pitcher and Second Team All-NWAC. Off the field, he also earned academic accolades, including a spot on the TCC Dean's List and induction into the Theta Chi Alpha National Honor Society.
After his time at TCC, Buchanan continued his collegiate career at Old Dominion University, where he pitched for two seasons with the Monarchs. His continued growth and development on the mound led to the professional opportunity with the Braves in early 2025.
Former TCC Head Coach Ryan Mummert expressed his pride in Buchanan's achievements, stating, "I'm so excited for Trent. When we recruited him, he had a long way to go. One of his high school coaches basically begged us to take him. But over time, I realized there are not many that possess the toughness and work ethic that Trent does. This opportunity with the Braves is not only a reflection of his talent but of his resiliency along the way. Trent is a true competitor, and I couldn't be happier for him."
Buchanan becomes just the third Titan in TCC history to sign with a major league organization, joining Garrett Westberg (RHP, Mariners) and Justin Vernia (RHP, Diamondbacks) in reaching this milestone.
The TCC community is excited to celebrate this accomplishment and wishes Trent continued success as he embarks on his professional baseball journey with the Atlanta Braves.
