TITANS SWEEP GRAYS HARBOR, PUSH WIN STREAK TO 10 GAMES
The Tacoma Titans baseball team completed a four-game, weekend sweep of the Grays Harbor Chokers in dominating fashion to remain tied atop the NWAC Western Region. Tacoma outscored Grays Harbor 49-1 to extend the longest win streak in the region to 10 games.
The weekend series got off to a solid start on Friday for the Titans who blanked the Chokers 11-0 behind dominant starting pitching from Nate Packard (2-3). Packard picked up his second win of the season by tossing a complete game, no hitter. He racked up eight strike-outs over the course of the game while walking four.
Offensively, the Titans had mutli-RBI games from four different hitters led by Owen Parson's three RBIs. Nine Tacoma base runners would come around to score as the Titans drew 10 walks to go along with 8 base hits.
Tacoma also shut down Grays Harbor's hitters in the second game, allowing just one base hit while tallying 16 of their own. The Titans had seven extra base hits and had eight batters see multi-hit games.
Garrett Westberg (4-0), currently second in the NWAC with his 0.94 ERA, struck out five over four innings before Garrett Smith came on in the fifth to strike out the side and complete the double header sweep.
The first game on Saturday Grays Harbor managed three hits but Tacoma was still overpowering for the Chokers and the Titans won 10-0. Taylor Adams led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI. The top of the order, Jordan Stoner, Parsons, and Adams, set the tone going a combined 6-for-11 with seven runs scored.
Justin Simanek (4-0) picked up the win on the mound for TCC going six strong innings allowing just the three hits. Nick Strange pitched two innings in relief to seal the win.
In the series finale, Grays Harbor was held to just two hits but they did score a run to avoid being shut out over the entire series as Tacoma used a pair of six run innings to win 13-1. Tacoma's balanced offensive attack saw nine different Titans score, eight batters have hits, and six drive in runs.
Ryan Connor (4-0) allowed one run on two Chokers hits on his way to earning the win. Jeffrey Lusink and Brandon Reynolds each tossed a scoreless inning in relief for TCC.
Next up for TCC is the Pierce Raiders. Pierce is currently on a four-game losing streak and is sitting four games behind Tacoma and Lower Columbia in the Western Region. The series kicks off Saturday at 1 pm at Minnitti Field.
