Titans Power Past Red Devils
The Titans (4-1, 11-9) used the long ball Sunday to hand the Lower Columbia Red Devils (4-1, 15-5) their first division loss, 8-2 in front of a great crowd at Minnitti Field. Home runs accounted for five of Tacoma's runs as Red Devil pitching had no answer for Tacoma's offense.
Taylor Adams scored the first run of the game, blasting a solo homer to lead off the second inning. The Titans scored again in the frame when Colin Wolf singled and later scored on Dominick Zombik's first RBI double of the game.
Lower Columbia evened the game in the top of the third when they had their only multiple hit inning and scored two runs. That would be all their scoring for the day thanks to solid Titan pitching.
Garrett Westerberg (3-0) started for the Titans and gave up just the two runs and five hits to Red Devil hitters while striking out seven over 5? innings. Nick Strange and Jeffrey Lusink combined to allow just one Lower Columbia hit while striking out three in relief.
Tacoma made certain the game did not remain tied long when Kenton Robillard led off the home half of the third with a solo home run, putting the Titans ahead for good at 3-2.
TCC used back-to-back-to-back doubles in the fourth by Jordan Stoner, Zombik, and Ryan Connor to plate two runs and build the lead to 5-2. For Zombik, it was his second double and RBI of the day.
The lead stayed at three until the bottom of the seventh when Quinn Rawson stepped up with two on and one out. He ripped a line drive, three run home run to right center to put Tacoma up 8-2 and cap a nice showing of Titan power.
In all, every Tacoma batter recorded a hit and seven different Titans would come around to score in the win which brought TCC into a three-way tie for the NWAC Western Division lead.
