Blue Mountain Community College (1-0-1) defeated Tacoma Community College (2-1-0) with a 4-1 victory, scoring two goals in each half at Pendleton, OR.
Tacoma's first half featured a resilient comeback after an early setback. Despite trailing at the 18th minute due to Wendy Moses' goal for Blue Mountain, Tacoma responded with an equalizer from
Aleigha Woodland in the 31st minute. The half saw Tacoma actively pressuring the Timberwolves' defense with multiple shots on goal from
Amelia Recardo,
Laura Corr, and
Polly Troyer, but the home team's goalkeeper, Miranda Medrano, consistently held firm.
Tacoma's second half was marked by strategic positioning and attempts to capitalize on set pieces. Despite an early goal from Blue Mountain's Alia Novi at the 47-minute mark, Tacoma's
Kali Ginnis persistently took corner kicks at the 70th, 73rd, and 81st minutes to create scoring opportunities. Mercedes Baltazar had a notable attempt with a shot that went wide right in the 58th minute, but the Titans were unable to convert. The Timberwolves extended their lead with a goal by Julia Shaw in the 82nd minute.
In the first half, Tacoma had a strong offensive presence with four shots on goal, but each was saved by Medrano. Despite Tacoma's efforts, Blue Mountain regained the lead with Shaw's goal in the 43rd minute, ending the half with a 2-1 advantage. Tacoma committed four fouls and received a yellow card, while Blue Mountain had one foul.
In the second half, Tacoma struggled to capitalize on opportunities as Blue Mountain extended their lead. The Timberwolves capitalized on their chances with goals from Novi and Shaw, assisted by Emily Moses and Novi, respectively, bringing the final score to 4-1. Tacoma committed multiple fouls and had three corner kicks by Ginnis but could not convert these set pieces into goals.
Woodland led Tacoma with one goal, scoring on her only shot, which was on target. Corr, Recardo, and
Josie Harris each contributed by recording one shot on goal from a single attempt. In goal,
Olivia Meyer made one save while facing three shots, playing 45 minutes and allowing two goals.
Shaw led Blue Mountain with two goals, including one game-winning goal, and she had three shots on goal. Novi contributed with one goal and one assist while making her only shot count as a shot on goal. Wendy Moses added a goal to the scoreboard with her single shot on goal. On the defensive end, Medrano recorded four saves, facing five shots in the match.
With the win, Blue Mountain improved to 2-0-1 on the season. The loss left Tacoma at 2-2-0.
The next challenge for the Titans is a trip to Walla Walla, Wash., to take on Walla Walla on Aug. 25 in a 12 PM matchup.
